Ara’kai Beauty’s founder Heydi Vásquez thinks women need to prioritise their sexuality and embrace their desires. Too long women have neglected sexual wellness, but no more. 

• How do you see sexual wellness as a part of Ara’kai Beauty’s journey? 

Sexual wellness is a very important and natural part of human nature. It is essential to our overall well-being how we connect with our body and our partners. This connection is important to nurture, as there are plenty of benefits to a healthy and active sex life. It can boost immunity, improve mental well-being, preserve heart health. Nurturing a sexual bond with your body will increase self-confidence, which will help promote both an inner and outer beauty. Intimacy gives you a certain glow that beauty products can’t provide. 

•  Why did you decide to include Dame vibrators in Ara’kai Beauty’s selection of products? 

I stumbled across Dame when planning to open Ara’kai Beauty and looking at what to include. Their brand is just so progressive and I love that they create the best intimacy products that are aesthetically pleasing. Not only that but their vibrators are made with reliable components and medical grade silicone. For many women, myself included, it is intimidating to buy sex toys in a traditional sex shop. By including chic sex toys in our selection of beauty products at a clean beauty space in the middle of Copenhagen, we hope that it will make it easier for women to shop for intimacy products and that the shame some women feel will disappear. Dame’s mission is that sex toys should satisfy women’s needs and make them feel empowered. I want the same for Danish women. 

• What are your hopes for 2021?

For a long time, there has been a gap between male and female sexual pleasure. For many women, men’s needs have come first. We want to empower women to feel confident to start exploring and claiming their own sexuality. 

In recent years, the traditional stigmas around sex are slowly being replaced by the view that sexual wellness is a form of self-care in its own right. We need to talk more freely about it as well as feel comfortable when investing in sex toys and nurturing an important part of human nature that helps boost emotional and physical health. More and more people are seeking out tools and resources in a newfound interest for intimacy paving the way for brands like Dame. I believe there's a sexual movement on the horizon, so join us.
